Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist working within the Tertiary Neonatal Intensive Care services at Singleton Hospital. The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the pharmacy service to Women & Child Health and Surgical Services.

We are looking for a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic individual that will work collaboratively with clinicians, nursing staff, pharmacy colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide clinical expertise to ensure patients receive the best pharmaceutical care.

It is an ideal role for a pharmacist with previous experience of providing care to neonates or children and who is keen to step up in a supportive environment. However, specific neonatal experience is not needed, and we can provide clinical training to the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

Your experience will have been gained working in a patient focussed environment using your knowledge and skills to improve patient care and promote optimal outcomes from medicines, including experience of undertaking research and/or audit.

There is a strong focus on learning and development, with the post providing education & clinical leadership within neonatal intensive care/Womens & Child Health to junior pharmacists and trainees, and other health professionals/undergraduates. 

In addition, the role will require the ongoing completion of core directorate activities such as reporting and analysis of medicines expenditure, clinical governance and risk management. Supporting other core pharmacy services including dispensary duties, weekends, bank holidays will be essential.

This role is a specialist pharmacist in Neonatal Intensive Care but will also be required to deputise for the Patient Services Manager/provide cross cover for Clinical Pharmacists on occasions.

Essential criteria
  • Current GPhC registration as pharmacist
  • Post Graduate MSc/ Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Non medical prescriber
  • Management/Leadership qualification


Essential criteria
  • Relevant experience as a clinical pharmacist with specialist area.
Desirable criteria
  • Accredited tutor for Clinical Pharmacy Diploma.
  • Accredited DS for Foundation Pharmacist Training
  • Evidence of clinical audit, practice research, implementation of procedures/protocols

Aptitude and abilities

Essential criteria
  • Advanced knowledge in relevant specialist areas
  • Good communicator, motivated, able to work as part of a team.
  • Act as role model and provide advice to to junior staff
Desirable criteria
